I updated and boy is is Safari slow! Has anyone else had this problem?

No.
Have you shutdown and restarted more than once since your update...(?)
If you have add-on and/or extensions, try disabling or update to test:
Use Safari extensions on your Mac - Apple Support
You can try a SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies
Another thing you might try is to test Safari performance for a different user (e.g., Guest) to see if some settings/third party software you have installed in your account is to blame.

Once you enable it it is between the Bookmarks menu and the Window menu.
Another thing to try is enable the Develop Menu in Safari > Settings… > Advanced. Then select "Empty Caches" from the Develop menu.
Wow that worked it runs faster as a guest how do close those 3rd party software accounts
