Airtag beeping sometimes. Why is that?

That can't be true, I have a set of 4 air tags paired with my iPhone and they are literally sitting within 5 feet of my phone and one is beeping. So it's not out of range of the phone. So your explanation can't be true

The issue is that, since this AirTag is associated to your Apple ID ... and to your iPhone, when it becomes separated from that iPhone for a period of time, it will start beeping.

That is the way it is designed to work. It is not meant to track people or pets, but to help you locate a missing item.

... and no, if you continue to use this in this fashion, there is no way to disable the beeping. That is, without you child having their own iPhone/Apple ID associated with an AirTag, and they then have this phone with them.

One potential means to stop it from beeping is to configure your child's school to be one of the locations that the AirTag will "know." You would use the Find My's "Notify When Left Behind" option, and create an exception ... and you would do this via the Find My app on your iPhone.

This is idiotic and just one more example of Apple dictating how you use their products, even when there is a solid reason for using them a different way.

I have AirTags on both sets of my car keys. I have a big set with all my office and other work keys, and the other is just the car key. I only take one at time when I drive.

The exclusion zone “solution” is just a clumsy work around, when it would be far easier to just enable turning this off entirely.

Apple get your s**t together! Why am I paying the Apple premium when we can't configure most basic stuff?

I'm pretty sure they are doing it as an anti stalking measure... and an effort to release their liability in the situation. It is a bummer for those of us that are trying to keep track of animals, kids, vehicles and such.

i actually cant even understand what the use is for these given the beeping. its JUST meant for things that remain within bluetooth distance of one particular phone at ALL times? keys, wallet . . . thats it? what if me and my husband share a set of car keys? how is this device supposed to work for almost anything? whats the point??

Being "out of range" is just one reason that the AirTags can make a sound.

If you could disable this then it could also be used to stalk people around. Legally they can’t give you that option. Which makes sense no?

My phone is within range and when i move my backpack with the AirTag inside it starts beeping. It's either liability from Apple or they need the batteries to drain faster and have a deal with battery suppliers LOL. This never happened in the beginning...

Well, save your judgement because it just happened to me. Airtag in my child's backpack is beeping in the mudroom

all on its own and I didn't even have the "Find My" app open on my phone.

Yes but now that iOS and Android will tell you if there is a tag following you its easy for anyone to scan and see if tags are near them if they think someone is following them.

Not sure if the beeping is some kind of backup or what but it's unnecessary now.

You can Share the car keys AirTag with your husband (or vice versa) and then it won't beep.

But he/she/they need to use a iPhone/iPad that is in range of the keys to keep the AirTag with, now, one of the owners. The anti stalk beeping will then be of, as it is with its owner.

I have 2 that sometimes sound together (they are both located on separate keyrings but almost always together except for the rare occasion my husband takes a set) or only one will beep. If I pick them up and shake them when it happens, it continues as long as I shake the AirTag. It drives me insane because there is absolutely no reason for it. I used to think someone was sounding my locating and sounding my AirTag because it always managed to happen when I was too far away to tell which one or if both were going off. But now it has happened so many times I know it's not someone locating them. A lot of people don't realize the batteries are replaceable when they buy them and likely assume they are disposable when the batteries run down forcing them to replace the units. My batteries are fine, both of them have done it since immediately after I got them. I agree this is an issue with Apple and should be resolved. As well as the fact of people being able to locate an already paired bluetooth device registered to your phone. I haven't the faintest idea why they allow either of these things in the programming of the device.

Mine just started beeping for no reason (they are not being located) and were not even being touched. If I pick them up and shake them when this happens, it continues to beep as long as the device is shook. Makes absolutely no sense to me.
