Ever since Safari 5 (which includes Safari 5.0.1), spell check no longer works when writing an email in Gmail for me. I mean I see the red squiggly line under the misspelled word and everything, but when I right click the word, it doesn't show any corrections. And the word remains misspelled with the red line under it. I never have this problem on any other sites or in any previous versions of Safari.
I've found a fix without having to switch to basic HTML. After spending too much time on this I discovered that the "Click to Flash" Plug-In for Safari (you can google it) fixes whatever is causing the word suggestions from being shown in gmail.
This happened to my machine after installing the latest updates 😟 REALLY annoying.
There is a workaround however that does not require installing anything. If you highlight the word first, it still gives you spelling suggestions... Not great, but better then nothing.
thanks for the highlighting tip. while click to flash is useful on other websites it kills the add attachment tool in gmail...fixes the spell check problem but causes another haha...
