Trying to keep Spotlight from searching an external volume

I want Spotlight to NOT search several external hard drives (volumes). I have added several but one will not let me add it, gives me an error. Any suggestions? Tying to add MAC HD BACKUP-2

Spotlight losing external drive Hello. I have a Mac Studio M1 with an external Thunderbolt Raid. I have my home directory on that drive, and I am not able to find files in Spotlight which I know are there. I took the drive into the Spotlight Exclusions, and then took it out again, and the file could be found. Since then, it has disappeared. Do I maybe have to delete the Spotlight Preferences? Kinda weird, that this is not working.

Spotlight Fails Finding Existing Files I am currently looking at a file in a folder on an external drive. When I copy some or all of the file name & enter to Spotlight, it does not locate the file. Spotlight is not finding many files that I can see exist. All options are selected in Spotlight Prefs. "This Mac" is typically selected when I search. Is the issue due to the fact that the file resides on an external drive, that is currently booted/not asleep? Other issues? If the file exists & is not damaged, why can't spotlight locate it? These are not files on drives that have been ejected. Thanks.

Spotlight will not index external drive — but definitely not the "usual" simple issue I have a OWC two-disk external firewire enclosure/hub that refuses to allow spotlight indexing. I'm aware of and have tried to usual approaches to resolving this, ranging from the advice to turn spotlight indexing off/on via the Mac OS Preferences, to reformatting the drive, switching to different RAID/spanning modes for the drive, trying some recommended terminal tricks, looking for and deleting the folder that spotlight creates on the drive, and so forth. Nothing resolves it. Otherwise the drive works fine, though things are obviously slower since finding files takes forever without Spotlight working. (Kind of defeats the whole purpose of the expensive Firewire enclosure, but I digress...) I'm at a loss. Feel free to share the usual solutions, but don't be upset if I simply report that I did them already. Perhaps among the responses there will be something new that gets at the potential and apparently unusual source of the problem? (Other drives attached to this computer do not exhibit this issue.)

Did you try running Disk Utility >First Aid on the drive...(?)

Utilities> Disk Utility> run the First Aid on your external drive If errors are found and repaired, run again until no errors reported.

Disk Utility>View>Show All Devices The best sequence is —

1 Container level

2 Parent drive

Ran it, made no difference, same error.
