CarPlay skip not working on steering wheel after update

My skip buttons on my steering wheel stopped working after updating the software to 16.5 on my iPhone 13.

I restarted my phone 2 times and it worked for about 2-4 skips and then stopped.

Hi Mir1008,

welcome to the Apple (user-to-user) Community.

You might want to send feedback to those who work behind-the-scenes at Apple. They will likely not reply, yet if others are also experiencing this issue we may see an update address that.

All the best :-)

Troubleshooting CarPlay:

A. Driver's Manual:

Read your driver's manual to find out more about syncing this.

B. Try being in Park:

For many, they must have their automobile in park to get this to all pair.

Following. Updated my phone to IOS 16.5 on 6/26/23 and ever since my skip buttons in my 2022 RAV4 do not work. My car owners manual has no info on how to resolve this. There was a moment this morning where it worked however stopped after skipping a few songs. Phone and car have been turned off since to try and combat. I’ve messed with car settings and everything else works fine.

Hoping someone has recently resolved this issue with next steps!

I updated iOS last night to 16.6.1.

Today Car Play is broken in my 2020 Toyota C-HR. Skip song buttons inoperable, same as other users.

This is an APPLE INC defect 100%.

I developed software in CMMI 4 and 5 organizations since the 1990s. If Steve Jobs were alive to see what you people dump on to consumers he’d fire you for this. Your customers are not meant to be free system testers.

This is not some obscure defect. It’s just poor software engineering pushed out to customers who are then forced to do all the testing for Apple as free labor. Inexcusable.

Maybe run integration and systems testing next time. I did not pay YOU money to run YOUR testing for you, and some of the posts I have seen where your customers report being gaslit by your employees about this being Toyota’s defect are laughable. Toyota still has process engineering and I doubt Apple culture even knows what that means anymore.

Please fix my Car Play.

Thank you for your post to the community, and for your opinions. We are all Apple users, like yourself, in the community, so Apple is not here to read your comments.

(There's a link for feedback to Apple, earlier in this discussion.)

With CarPlay especially, it seems important to keep manufacturer's updates compatible with those from Apple. Seems many Apple updates in current times combat malicious intent, and thus keep our systems secure.
