CarPlay skip not working on steering wheel after update

My skip buttons on my steering wheel stopped working after updating the software to 16.5 on my iPhone 13.

I restarted my phone 2 times and it worked for about 2-4 skips and then stopped.

This was a defect they injected into production code because I doubt they adequately systems and field tested the release. They leave this forum here for their customers to identify said defects. I wouldn’t be surprised if they maintain a database of user-identified defects, and then that became the primary means of testing. It’s terrible and inexcusable.

Toyota releases the APIs for their vehicle interface. Toyota has not updated in a few months. This was an iOS update. The defect is with messaging between the steering column button and CarPlay. It really has nothing to do with security. I am not sure what you think you are defending here. I don’t enjoy paying Apple money to take time out of my day to run testing for them.

IOS 17 is out and it's still not fixed, BUT it's a little better. I spoke with technical support few months back. They said it's a common thing with 5th gen RAV4 and IOS 16.5 and up. They said to keep updating the phone to see if it gets better. Right now after installing IOS 17 it's hit or miss. It either works, then next trip it doesn't. Hopefully the next few updates finally fix it.

It’s finally working (for now)!

I’ve been having this problem for months with my 2020 RAV4. I have an iPhone 12, but my boyfriend has a 13 and the issue happened with both of our phones. I took it into the dealership a few weeks ago and they updated the software, but it was still happening. I tried using Apple and Toyota brand cables, and the problem continued. I updated my phone tonight to iOS 17.0.2 and it’s FINALLY working - and with the original Amazon cable I was using!!!! Hopefully it continues working, but this is the first time I’ve had any success, so I’m very excited! Hope this helps.

I have a 2019 Camry and use the same cable in it that I do my 2021 Rav4

the 2019 Camry has no problem

the 2021 Rav4 has the same problem

to add to it the volume buttons on the steering wheel don’t work and you can’t turn volume up on head unit but yes you can reach and change sines on head unit.

and yea it happened right after the 16 something updates

my opinion it has to do with year of Toyota and the 16 series updates

like anything 2020 and on
