Why is Siri getting worse?

I used to be able to ask Siri to call my wife (useful if driving and need to discuss something urgent - no need to handle the phone) but now Siri attempts to write what I am saying, spells my wife's name wrong and says there is no-one by that name in my contacts.grrrrrr. It used to work fine. I even taught my small children (who are too young to otherwise make the call) to use it to call my wife in case of an emergency (if wife was out and I collapse for example). No that won't work.

Also, I used to be able to ask Siri to play music that is stored on my iPhone while I was driving - that WAS good. Now occasionally works but usually says "you have to unlock your phone first" - a bit dangerous while driving...

I know there are old posts about similar issues but it is getting worse, not better. I am disappointed, Apple! You should be better than this.

I’m having similar problems with Siri but I found out that after saying “hey Siri” I need to wait for Siri to respond

verbally, then continue with question or command. I was able to say everything at once before and it worked flawlessly. Now, even when i follow this procedure it’s still prone to errors but not as much. Also, there is a setting that asks if you want siri to work even when screen is locked…

Prior functionality disappears. Whenever I ask siri to set an alarm, it sets an alarm with no sounds. Not helpful. I texted with Apple support. Kind people but they couldn't figure it out. Now in iOS 17, more functionality is lost. I used to be able to say siri set an alarm for 60 minutes from now. It sets a timer instead. It would be nice if Apple could keep existing functionality.
