Apple Watch Series 5 - Battery Issue

Hi everyone,

I’ve seen other threads where people have described this same issue, but none seem to have been resolved.

I have had no problems with my watch for a few years. It is used quite lightly, with the bulk being around 40-50 minutes of music and exercise.

Recently, my watch has been claiming the battery is low, however when returned to the charger, it shows a green ring with the battery anywhere between 40-60%. When checking the battery in settings, it shows green bars then an immediate dip into red, it’s not a neat curve.

Does anybody have any idea what the problem is? I have tried to get help through the chat feature, but they tell me there is no issue according to diagnostics, which makes no sense.

Grateful for any help. I have unpaired and repaired with my iPhone, and reset the watch, both to no avail.

Thanks

What is the Battery Health on your watch? On your watch, open the Settings App and swipe up till you see Battery. Tap Battery and then Battery Health. If Battery Health is near or below 80%, the battery in your watch is failing. Which for a 3 year old watch, wouldn't be all that unusual.

I would imagine, though I'm not going to test my suspicion, after enough time, the push in the crown will reveal a dark screen without the time to help preserve the battery. I do wonder if a powered off watch is now findable? There's nothing Apple has out there which suggests it can be tracked powered off. And people come here daily asking why they can't find a dead watch?
