I accidentally created another safari start page. How do I get rid of it?

If you opened another Safari tab, just close the associated tab. A selected tab is closed using the tiny ”x” icon at the left-edge of the active tab.

If instead you have opened another Safari Window, this can be just as easily closed - although there are many more ways to do so. Assuming that your iPad has recent version of iPadOS installed, the simplest method to close the Safari windows is to tap the three-dot (…) button at top-centre of the Safari Window; from the menu, select Close.
