Photos question

The Photos app on my MacBook Pro has begun to spin and freeze quite a bit while I am editting photos and only solution is to Force Quit. Any advice?

Can you tell us more about your Mac and your Photos Library?

Photos might be slow or unresponsive for several reasons:

  • The Photos Library may contain older items in a legacy format, that can no longer be processed on your current system version. Does your library contain any items, that have been imported on macOS 10.14 or on an earlier system version? Check the format of these items. Are any items (videos, images) in a format tat is listed here as problematic: About legacy media in iMovie for macOS - Apple Support?
  • Does you mac have plenty of free storage? At least 20GB, better more, of free storage on the internal volume?
  • Is your Photos Library perhaps on an unsupported external drive? If your Phitos Library is not in your Pictures folder but on anexternal volume, the external volume should have been prepared as described here: Move your Photos library to save space on your Mac - Apple Support
