m1 max chip for FCPX? How much memory?

I need to buy a laptop for my wife to do string outs in FCPX. At the mac repair store they thought perhaps an M1 Max chip in a macbook pro would be good. It has to be a laptop, but we are cost conscious so considering a refurbished, or trying to get the lowest SSD and use and external drive. How much memory will she need? Would an Intel laptop still work?

Need advice on purchasing secondhand MacBook Pro for Premier My main MacBook Pro (A1398, Mid 2015) recently experienced a logic board failure, and with the price of replacement I’ve decided to purchase another secondhand Mac instead. The main place I’m looking is CEX, primarily because I get a 5-year warranty on the item purchased. The issue is that I don’t know exactly what specs I need to be able to run Premier Pro 2025. My current understanding is that I generally need these two things: At least 8GB of RAM At least 2.5GB of VRAM Several of the MacBook Pro’s on offer (and in stock) have 8GB or more of RAM, but the VRAM can vary from 1.5GB to as low as around 700MB. I’ve narrowed the MacBook Pros that are applicable (and relatively cheap) down to these model/series numbers: 8,1 = A1278? 9,2 = A1278 10,2 = A1425 11,1 = A1502 What I need to know is, which of these (with the right amount of RAM) would be able to run Premier Pro 2025? Appreciate any help or insight people can give me on this. I’m open to something that can run earlier versions of Premier, but being able to run this year’s version at least is my main goal.

An Intel laptop would work, but I wouldn't buy one. The difference is considerable. You can probably get a used M1 Pro or a refurb (don't think a Max would add that much over the Pro) with 16GB of memory. I wouldn't go lower.
