External SSD Library Photo don't always work

Hi everyone. I have a problem with the Photos application. At this time of writing I have OS Ventura 13.4, latest software update. I've created a photo library on an external SSD (formatted in APFS and also tried Journaled), but when I import photos, sometimes it gets stuck at 0% and never progresses, other times it imports without problems. If I move the library to the internal HDD everything works fine. ah the SSD permissions are right.

How is the external SSD connected to your Mac? It needs a wired connection, not a network access.

And even with a wired connection, the external drive must not get ejected, while you are logged into your user account. Are you occasionally getting warnings about the external drive being ejected, when your Mac is awaking from being asleep? If that happens, Photos will lose the connection to your System Photos Library, because the System Photos Library needs to be available at all times, while you are signed into your user account.

So log off, before you eject the external volume.

To avoid this problem, I am keeping my System Photos Library on the internal drive and are keeping it small enough, so it will fit, and the larger libraries on the external are fine, as they are not the System Photos Library, and I am switching back to the library on the internal drive, when I have stopped working with them.

Hi Old Toad. Here I am back. I created a new admin user (like mine), before logging out I tried to import some photos and it didn't work, it remained at 0% as it usually does. I logged out and logged in with the new user. i tried to import some photos and it worked (always on the same library created on the external SSD). So then I logged out of the new user and logged in with MY user and right now it works on mine too. I don't understand why sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When it reblocks me, I have to try to log out of my user to see if that's the problem.

Well, first let's not go again the old adage; Don't 🔭 a 🎁 🐴 in the 😮.

Some times when a user is having a problem with a library if they create a new library import a photo or to into it and then go back to their problem library it works. It may have to do with cache files. Doing it from another account may be similar. Glad you got it worked out.

No, I haven't installed any of those programs. But I don't think the library is corrupted, because if I copy it to the internal HDD it works regularly and I don't understand why it randomly works also on the external SSD. the strange thing is that it doesn't let me import the photos, but I can see the ones that are already there and easily edit them
