Why is it impossible to change a sleep schedule alarm for the same day when it’s past midnight?

Not only is it impossible to change the sleep schedule alarm for the same day (although quite temperamental as on some days it seems to work but rarely), adding additional normal alarms in Clock app as an alternative isn’t a practical option either, because there is no similar crescendo sound to select, so there’s no other option but to be alarmingly woken up by an obnoxiously loud alarm sound, especially when one gets used to the Bedtime alarm sound. Why isn’t that sound available to normal alarms in the Clock app? Why can’t you at least do one or the other; make the calm sound available or make it possible to change the Bedtime alarm for the same day. Why is it so difficult?

Hmmm. I’m sorry you are having issues with this. I change mine all the time. According to, Add or change sleep schedules in Health on iPhone - Apple Support, you can change it temporarily by doing the following:

Change only your next schedule

You can make a temporary change to a sleep schedule.

  1. Tap Browse at the bottom right, then tap Sleep.
  2. Scroll down to Your Schedule, then tap Edit (below Next).
  3. Drag  to change your bedtime,  to change your wake up time, or the semicircle between the icons to shift both times simultaneously.
  4. Choose alarm options.
  5. When Alarm is turned on, you can choose a sound, its volume, a vibration, and the snooze option.
  6. Tap Done.

Note: You can also use the Clock app to change your next sleep schedule alarm.

After your next wake up time, your normal schedule resumes.

I hope this helps.

This is indeed something of some importance for those who work in the many “critical occupations” outside of normal office hours.

The best example is to attempt to set a 4-hour rest period for this evening. (e.g. prior to “3rd Shift”)

Can’t be done w/ “Alarm.” 😕 (at least not which I have found)

The only reliable/repeatable workaround which I’ve found is to use “Timer.”

This happens to me too. The only workaround I’ve found is to go to Date & Time, turn off Set Automatically, then change the time to anything before midnight. Then set your sleep alarm. Then go back to Date & Time and turn Set Automatically back on. The sleep alarm remains set for the same day, not the following day. It’s a pain in the behind to do that every time I need to set the sleep alarm past midnight, but at least it works.

Hi all, so I was waiting to test this for a few weeks before posting but I think I have found a solution. It’s not the most intuitive as I imagine a lot of people would rather not set alarms on the weekend but once I set a sleep schedule for the weekend too, I no longer have this issue.

After the weekend schedule was set up, any day of the week now shows as “this morning” once it’s past midnight and I can change the time, even at like 2 or 3am when i’m up late. Likewise for the weekend you just have to remember to change it or skip alarm for the next day if you don’t want it on.

Doesn’t make sense but i’m glad i finally got there!

Why is it impossible to change a sleep schedule alarm for the same day when it’s past midnight?
