USB-A Superdrive not recognized in MacBook Pro M1 on Ventura 13.4

Have an Superdrive from 2012 that I used very occasionally. First attempt with my M1 MBP and the drive makes a click like it has power but isn't recognized. Can't insert a disk.

Tried with both an Apple USB-C to USB-A adaptor and a 3rd party adaptor.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.14

A poster in another thread mentioned seeing a brief message window blip by. They replugged until it stuck around and allowed them to click "Allow".

Watched carefully, and found the same was happening for me.

I minimized all the windows until it was just the desktop. Replugged to make the dialog box briefly show. Timed it so my click registered on "Allow". Now my drive is taking in disc and being recognized on this machine. Thanks!

I've had a similar issue; just upgraded my entire system from a 2010 iMac 27 inch to a new 2023 Mac Mini with a Satechi hub. I found that the Apple Superdrive was not recognised at all if plugged into either the Satechi or any of my other USB hubs (despite them all being powered hubs.) I finally had success by plugging it straight into one of the USB sockets on the back of the Mac Mini (I didn't need a USB-A to USB-C adaptor, it worked fine just plugged into one of the large USB sockets.) Not sure if that's any help but it worked for me
