Here is an AppleScript/Objective-C script that allows one to display the comment contents of a selected file in the Finder without resorting to Get Info.

Copy and paste the following code into Apple's Script Editor, click the hammer icon to compile it. Select any file in the Finder that you know has a Finder comment on it, and then press control+cmd+R to run the script on the main thread. If you don't, or if there is no comment content on the selected file, it will quit with an error dialog.

I'm afraid it didn't work for me. A change in the system? Is there any other app, script, action, service, gizmo that will allow me to see a file's comments when I hover over it with a certain key combination held down? Or when I right click on an icon?

I'm afraid it didn't work for me. What operating system version? Which dialog below, or a different one did you see when running the script from the Script Editor?

There must be a comment entered on the Finder selected document before you run the script.

Tested as posted on Sonoma 14.5 and Ventura 13.6.7.
