iMovie - cannot drag and drop

Why can't I simply drag and drop my JPG image to the timeline? See screen capture.

I have 60GB free space on Mac and 1 TB on iCloud (if this is relevant or not).

Last week I made an iMovie without a hitch.

Any advice appreciated.

Try deleting preferences and see if that cures it. Open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects.

If still no luck, try creating a new project and see if you can drag and drop in the new project.

Also, sometimes rebooting can cure issues.
