iPhone 12 Mini Rear Camera Not Focusing

Hello, my iPhone 12 Mini rear camera will not focus when using the 1.0+ mode, for both videos and pictures. Only the 0.5 - 0.9 modes will focus properly.

I have cleaned the camera, updated to the latest OS 16.5, removed my case, closed the camera app, restarted the phone, and changed the camera settings, but nothing is working.

It has been like this for quite some time and I have yet to find a solution.

Thank you

So finally booked a trip to the Apple Store and they said it was most likely the image stabilisation in the lens that was faulty and needs replacing. No other damage to my 12 mini iPhone so they did it today and I can finally take normal focused images again.

They asked if I rode bikes either a motorbike or a push bike (I ride neither) as sometimes especially when they are used on the handlebars for gps or other this can happen when the phone is jiggled around a lot.

Hope this helps

Following up on my own post -- since I loved this sized-phone so much and did not want to buy a new larger phone (nor need one) -- I went to the Apple Store to replace the camera. The quoted cost was $149. While there they did a diagnostic and suggested a new battery (which I was already aware was needed so what the heck.)

So for $250 I got a new phone.

Not metaphorically but an actual new phone. They damaged my phone while trying to replace the camera and gave me a new phone for the cost of the repair.

Although I got a new phone -- I was still happy with the cost of replacing since they no longer make this phone size. I know it sucks but $150 is much less ant $1100 for a new phone.

Hopefully I will have this new iPhone for another 2 or 3 more years. And maybe phone sizes will shrink once again.

Hello. I have the same issue -- but just happened and I have been using 17.0 since it came out so I think it is a mechanical issue -- just happened to a lot of people at the same time because they all got the phone when it came out. I got mine 6 months later...and here we are 6 months later.

Was this an AppleCare replacement or an acknowledgment of the phone being defective? It says out of warranty yet they "gave" you a new phone -- albeit for a fee. I see you are in the UK so perhaps the consumer laws are better there than in the US.

I am also facing the same issue with that updated version. Until 0.9x is working. But when I reach 1x it just doesn't focus anymore. I contacted Apple support in the chat, and they will call me to understand the situation because everything they told me to do did not work. Can it be because of the software update? I think it's the only option...

My iphone 12 mini camera is having the same issue, unable to focus to take picture, cannot focus to scan document which was important for my job. Machine service center personnel did not even check my phone & straight away could tell me was soft ware problem & advised me to update latest version IOS. Now I am already in IOS 17 but the problem persisted. The camera made creaky sound when struggle to focus. And it was a nuisance in my daily life doing task with my iphone camera.

I wonder whether Apple had the moral obligation to compensate customers or recall the product, as we bought the iphone with high expectation of quality product, as the price is higher than other brand of similar specification. And the product is mal-function, not because of our fault, but Apple soft ware.
