where do I find a saved appendix in Mail

My wife received an email with a word file. She opened that, made some changes but simply saved it instead of 'save as' and now she can't find it anymore. Where should she look?

THANKS!!!!

Use Spotlight and search the entire disk. She doesn't need the full name, partial names will sometimes work.

Has she checked Mail's trash? The full email may still be there. Depending on how many accounts you have and how each is set up, you may have several Trashes

My opinion ... ALL attachments need to be saved into a default folder. Mail is just not all that trustworthy and if saved into a folder, it gets backed up. I'm assuming she backs up, but if she's not she should. Regularily and often to a dedicated external drive
