Hey Drrthomas,

If you have Bluetooth headphones or speakers connected, they might be overriding the phone's internal speaker. Try disconnecting them and see if you hear sound notifications.

If you're using Wi-Fi calling, it might sometimes cause notification sounds to not play when the screen is off. Try turning off Wi-Fi calling and see if that resolves the issue.

Last option is to reset all settings Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings. This will reset all your settings to default including notification sounds. Make sure to back up your data before doing this.

*** I think I have found a temporary fix. ***

In my case, I have a set of BOSE Bluetooth headphones. When these are not connected, my 14 Pro Max phone will not DING or show a message while the phone is locked or the screen is off. As an experiment, can I suggest you turn of Bluetooth, lock your phone and get someone to text you. If this works then turn on Bluetooth and go through list of devices you have connected and remove each one until you resolve the issue. - Hope this helps.

Have you enabled Scheduled Summary?

Settings > Notifications > [Select the App that you are having trouble receiving immediate notifications]

See the pic below for a few examples. Please select immediate delivery.

Go to Settings and tap Notifications. Select an app under Notification Style. Under Alerts, choose the alert style that you want. If you turn on Allow Notifications, choose when you want the notifications delivered — immediately or in the scheduled notification summary.

Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
