TV Library.tvlibrary

I set up two TV libraries on my Imac. One for R movies and one for kids movies. Sometimes when I switch between the two libraries by opening the TV App (with the option key held down to bring up the load which library prompt) and I select the library I wasn't just watching, the same library keeps opening. Its as if one of the libraries has taken over and I can only open that one. Is there a way to fix this and get back both libraries without deleting one library from Users folder and starting over? Thanks

Hi santacruz831,

As it appears you are using a Mac to access the Apple TV app, here are a couple of steps to try should this occur again:

1) Fully close the Apple TV app by clicking TV next to the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of your screen and choosing "Quit TV" from the menu. Then, hold the Shift key on your keyboard while opening the Apple TV app once more. Holding shift will often force apps to clear any stored or saved state and reload the software.

2) See if this continues if started into safe mode per How to use safe mode on your Mac. That article also outlines the most appropriate steps to take depending on the results of the test.

Regards.

Hello santacruz831,

Thanks for posting. If we understand correctly, you have two TV libraries, and when you open one, it sometimes seems to open the other library. Is that right?

We'd like to get some information to narrow this down. Is this happening consistently, or are you sometimes able to open the second library? We're wondering if the contents of the libraries could've ended up overlapping at some point.

As a general start, have you tried clicking Apple menu () > Restart and then testing again? That's a good first step if you haven't tried it yet.

Also, you might want to ensure you've backed up and then updated to the latest version of macOS for your iMac. Check out these links for the steps:

Thanks for the reply. As to your inquiries, yes, when I quit TV on my Imac and then reopen it while holding down the option key so I can get the dialogue that lets me choose the other tvlibrary, the other library doesn't work and all I can open is the library I was watching. I should say I am able to choose each tvlibrary separately after I quit and restart TV but they both come up showing the same thing. One interesting note I noticed was when I was choosing the tvlibrary, I noticed that both tvlibrary were the same size and now that I've deleted one and recreated the one that didn't work, now they are different sizes.

You ask if this is happening consistently and once it happens it never "corrects" itself and I have to delete the tvlibrary that isn't working and then create a new library to get back to where I was. I have tried restarting but it doesn't fix the problem.

This problem doesn't happen that often, maybe 5 times a year but it does take some time to fix so any suggestions you may have would be great! Also, I always update to the latest version of macOS as soon as it comes out.

Thanks. One other question. When I watch tv shows or movies from my personal library from my Imac on my actual television using Apple TV 4k, there is a category called recent. These are the TV shows or movies I recently added. Very handy. The thing is, it only shows the ten most recent additions and it would be nice it I could see more, like 50, to see which is newest. If I look at the movies or TV shows in the other view they are just alphabetical. Is there a way to change this so there are more than just 10 in the recent additions list? Thanks, again.
