I’m trying to make an online purchase with Apple Pay
it keeps referring to Update Shipping Address, when I click on that it says my phone number is invalid. Which it is not. I’ve checked in settings and the phone number is correct

Manage and use your Apple ID - Apple Support
Update your shipping information on your iPhone.
Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > transaction defaults > address - update as needed
Wallet app > tap on any card > tap three dots in corner > tap address - edit as needed for all cards
Settings > Apple ID (your name at the top) > payment & shipping > address - edit as needed.
The Target app does accept ApplePay. I use it all the time. I did just have to reaffirm my phone number.
It could be for some users. But the phone number has to match sources for verifying the number.
I was able to update my address under my Apple ID and wallet in Settings, but when I try to go directly to the Wallet app and click on the three dots as suggested, the only option it gives me is to view card number or car details, and there is no place to add the shipping address under any of these options, just billing address, which I did confirm was correct.
I'm also now having this issue after updating to iOS 17.4 when previously I didn't have an issue with purchasing stuff online using Apple Pay. It telling me to update my shipping, billing address, etc... when everything is correct. The wording is in red when you're about to process an online order saying update billing address. So annoying!

I’m trying to make a purchase using Apple Pay on Target app. I keep getting error to update shipping contact. There’s nothing to update. So annoying!
Doesn’t show an option to update phone number only billing address, which is correct.
Attempting to purchase on costco app, apple incessantly errors with update shipping contact. My settings are correct & still unable to make a purchase using Apple Pay & I am tired of trying to change an address that’s already accurate in all 3 locations! I cannot update something that is accurate so what now apple?
When I double click to confirm Apple Pay, I get "update shipping contact". When I click on that notification, I get "phone number has error". I've tried every possible format of phone number, and I've only ever had one phone number associated with Apple Pay. I've tried every solution I've seen in this discussion, and none have solved the problem.
It serves no function to just post your issue and walk away from people trying to assist you. You wrote basically the same thing 5 days ago, I replied 5 minutes later, and you don’t respond. Apple Support does not read these comments or respond on the forums.

I tried it all yesterday and no luck. Bought something today and now it works.
