Mac haywire after trying to clean install

Hi, I'll try to keep it as short as possible.

After having a bootcamp partition earlier I f"#$ up and wiped the partition with disk utility instead of using bootcamp assistant so now I cant merge the two partitions without doing a clean install of OS or so I was told.

I decided at the same time to go back to Mojave from Big Sur as I need to runn 32bit apps so I backed up all my data and created a bootable mojave installer on an USB drive.

Restarted holding option key and got a choice between my mac HD, Windows (which is obviously not working as I erased that partition) and the USB installer.

I ran the installer to install Mojave on my mac HD and it completes the process in about 10 minutes before restarting.

Upon restarting I get the Apple logo and an empty progress bar for a few seconds before the mac shuts down with a short fan burst before restarting again. This goes In a never ending loop until I hold option when it restarts where I get the option to install from usb again (which I tried) or to run OS installer (which I presume installs Big Sur again) or to boot from data disk which starts the computer normally in Big Sur after a message telling me that the computer restarted because of a problem.

Everything seems to be working normally in Big Sur, and no data has been erased so something has obviously gone very wrong with the installer.

I'm a bit at a loss as what to do next.

I'm on a Macbook pro 2018 15"

SOLVED:

In terminal i typed:

diskutil list

this displays all the HD stuff

then typed:

diskutil apfs deleteContainer disk0s1 disk0s3

(disk0s3 was the volume of the partition i recognized by its size)

Then i went into the disk utlility app which now let me formate the drive to FAT32

THEN i opened bootcamp which finally offered to restore the partitions into one drive.

It worked, not sure why.

Feels like the tech equivalent of Bambi stumbling into a triple axel but here we are.

It's been a ride

Seems I followed some bad instructions as I thought I'd just run the installer without erasing Big Sur first.

After erasing the main HD from recovery and reinstalling Mojave everything is fine, with the huge exception that I'm still not able to do anything about my ex Bootcamp Drive. Can't resize it, clean installing didn't erase the partitioning. I can still use the space but with a tiny 250gb drive having two partitions is a hassle.

I've read someone saying you should reinstall windows and then remove it the correct way, but Bootcamp Assistant will only let me install making yet another partition from my main MacHD so I'm going nowhere near that.

Isn't there some way I can just physically nuke the whole drive and start over?

I know there's a right way to reverse a bootcamp partitioning but I'm going to say if making the mistake of trying to erase your partition the "regular" way is going to leave you with a split drive for eternity I think this maybe should have been communicated a bit more clearly. Feels like an honest mistake.

I'm thinking you need to erase/format the drive again, if that alone doesm\t workout better, then try the 3rd option...
