Hi there zipfolder,

Thank you for posting to Apple Support Communities.

We understand you're receiving an error message when trying to download a file from iCloud Photos. If you're using Safari, you might be unintentionally having Safari try to unzip the file.

Check at Safari > Settings > General, and uncheck "Open "safe" files after downloading." This will allow the file to download without opening. Then, you can open/unzip it separately.

If this resolves the issue, make sure to go back and to re-check the option to "Open "safe" files after downloading."

That should help. Let us know how it goes.

Take care.

Hi zipfolder,

Here are instructions for opening that zip folder:

  • "Unzip (expand) a compressed item: Double-click the .zip file.
  • The unzipped item appears in the same folder as the .zip file. If you want to, you can delete the .zip file.
  • Note: If you can’t open the .zip file, make sure you have enough space on your Mac for the unzipped item. If you received the .zip file from someone else, there might be a problem with the file. Ask them to zip the file again and resend it."
