Sorting albums

I have always had my albums sorted Oldest to Newest order. Lately, whenever there is an update and I open Photos, many of the albums are out of order. I check the setting and it is correct. I have a lot of albums to moving each one manually is a pain. Is this something I can fix?

On a Mac you can sort the list of albums automatically.

Ctrl-click "My Albums" in the sidebar in Photos, then use the command "Sort" and then "Oldest First". Or sort "By Name", if the name of the album is starting with the date.

The sorting by date will sort them according to the date oldest or newest photo in each album.

If this sorting has changed after a system upgrade, the set of photos inside the album or their dates must have changed, which is not very likely to happen. After a major system upgrade Photos will have to update your library to anew format and rebuild the library. During this process some orphaned image files may be recovered from the library.

Where is your library stored? Are you keeping the library on an external drive? If ye, check, if the file system format is compatible with Photos. macOS 13 Ventura is much less tolerant, if the library is on an incorrectly formatted external drive.
