iPhone 6s wifi stopped working

Hello, there is a spinning pinwheel in the upper left corner on the home screen. Settings shows a check mark next to my network, but there is no wifi icon at the top. My iPad 2 connects to wifi. Phone provider did a network reset and said to contact ISP, but I doubt that's it since the old iPad still connects. I tried resting phone etc. Thank you for any help.
