Should I get a Macbook air 2022 with 256gb of storage or a macbook air 2020 with 512gb storage

Which 2020 MacBook Air? There was an Intel model, introduced in March 2020, and a M1-based model, introduced in November 2020.

Also, how much memory does each have? You can add external storage to a MacBook Air – but you can't add RAM to one after the fact. So if you're planning to run something like Photoshop or Lightroom Classic (for which Adobe recommends 16+ GB of RAM), getting a machine with 8 GB of RAM might be a mistake.

You would have to tell us a LOT, LOT more about how you use a computer, how much you want to pay, etc. Right now we know nothing and would be going on personal preferences which may be compltely in contradiction to your needs.

From what you've provided, I'd go for the more recent model, being updates will be provided for 6 or 7 years after the date of release. Provide a Buch more, and you'll like get a better answer than that. What are you looking to use this for? How often will you be using it?
