Disappearing storage on MacBook Pro Big Sur 11.7.6

I've just lost almost 9GB of storage over 24 hrs whilst my MacBook was closed down - I'm having a continuous battle keeping storage up to 11-12GB on a 198GB disk. What is going on??!

I have the happen regularly on my MacBook Air with several GBs. Rebooting brings them back. I think it is cached items building up over time. I assume you have emptied the trash?

Do you mean you lost data or the active data portion of your disk is getting smaller?

With such a small disk, little things your Mac does to maintain itself can have a big effect on disk available space. Automatic updates and such will eat up a proportionally larger space on a small dis
