Can't get the 4K resolution option in the monitor section (system preferences)

Hello! I recently acquired a Samsung UJ59 monitor (4k) and was using it at 4k resolution for about one week. Last night it suddenly shifted to 1920 x 1080 resolution.

When trying to change the monitor's resolution in system preferences, the 1920 x 1080 resolution appears as the default setting for the monitor and the highest resolution option available. I just installed OS Ventura, my mac is a 13 inch M1 Mac book pro.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated as I've got some design work due and working at 1920 x 1080 is torture...

Many thanks!

that appears to be a 4K display with HDMI 2.0 (2x) and DisplayPort 1.2 inputs.

later versions of MacOS are increasing fussy about errors in transmitting data to the display, so top cables are essential.

HDMI cables you want for HDMI-only Displays (higher resolutions than 720p TV sets) are marked as Certified with an anti-counterfeiting tag and are labeled:

"Premium High Speed HDMI cable" or that + "with Ethernet" --OR--

"Ultra High Speed HDMI cable" or that + "48G"

Cables with No Certification tags are good for your standard 720p TV set, and not much more.

DisplayPort generally does not have such issues.
