iPhone 7 Microphone not working after iOS 15.7.6 Update

My iPhone 7 (yes, I still have an iPhone 7) was working perfectly until immediately after I installed the 15.7.6 update. Since then, I can no longer pick up phone calls - the audio / speaker symbol is greyed out when I make calls or receive calls. The only way I can take a call is by using my AirPods. In addition, if I try to record a Voice Memo, nothing happens - I'm unable to record. After some online sleuthing I went ahead and reset all settings, and immediately afterwards the microphone functioned again, implying that the issue is software related, not hardware related. But the celebration ended quickly as the microphone stopped working again within a few hours....

Is anyone else facing this situation and is Apple taking a look at this? What can I do to solve the issue? Thank you in advance for your help!

PiyushChaurasia ~ With an older iPhone model such as the iPhone 7 Plus, it's worth checking the battery. If it's still the original 4+ year-old battery, the long process of applying an iOS update can strain a weak, aging battery and be the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back". Does your iPhone 7 Plus still have its original battery?

And what's the Maximum Capacity % here?...

Thanks Alancito.

I don’t have original battery, but I got it replaced with genuine Apple battery in Apple Store in the year 2022 or 2021.

It is at 86% capacity. I called Apple customer care since Apple Store asked me to do that. Apple customer care ran diagnostics and there were no hardware issues. I have saved chat for future reference, so that I can proceed for formal complaint for this unethical behavior by Apple.

I have the same problem on IPhone 7plus mobile. Just got off the phone with Apple Support 5/11/23. I was Told they can not help me my phone is too old and will not pay to fix a software issue with microphone. This issue was caused by my installing their update 15.7.7 when I noticed no incoming calls connecting. I had been using my iPad 14 pro with no problem as I usually pick up calls on there. Apple support are not going to help… phone to old. How ridiculous is that? Microphone issue. You would think to continue using the iPhone I would be able to uninstall the software off. We update and expecting Apple to be trustworthy enough that we are doing the right thing. Was this a planned issue to make phone unworkable to then buy another mobile? With there in difference to the issue.. this is how Apple Support comes across to me. Not only that if I post iPhone to Apple store nearest 3 hrs away, will cost $588.95 to have a look and diagnose, if cannot fix some money back. We know the issue it’s utterly shameful of Apple. RIP IPHONE 7.. not happy 🥲

I also am experiencing the same problems; speaker button grayed out, microphone unable to dictate notes. I can send and receive text messages. Cellular service is working fine. When I call someone or they call me, phone rings but can’t hear the caller and they can’t hear me. I updated iOS to 15.8 and same problem; no change. I have been a loyal Apple user, this is very disappointing because now it’s going to cost me $900 for a new phone.
