I have projects that I moved from iMovie to FCPX months ago. I've been doing a lot of work on them in FCPX since then. That iMovie library is taking up a lot of space and I want to delete it but I'm not sure if that'll somehow effect the projects in fcpx that originally came from that iMovie library. Can I delete it?

The iMovie library should have been converted to a separate, complete FCP library. Check in the library if the media is inside the library bundle, use Reveal in Finder. If the files are there you're good to trash the iMovie library.

Coming at your question from a different angle I am wondering whether you are entirely reliant on your MBA's small hard drive.
You could get a 2TB pocket sized HDD for £55 from Amazon which would solve all your storage problems.
