My message app is showing that I have a message when I don't. If I remove the app in hopes that this will cure the 1 message that I don't have - and reinstall the app, will my text messages still be in the app or will I lose them?!

The thing is that you will not be able to delete the Messages app. You may be able to remove it from the Home Screen, however, it will remain in the App Library. You attempts to delete it will not delete any texts.

I recommend that you Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

The messages app cannot be uninstalled.
This happens occasionally. Just restart your iPhone. The message notification will go away.
Nope! I’ve had updates as well rebooted several times didn’t help! But thank you!
The app stays in the library… just curious if I attempt to delete it will my texts be deleted…
