Apple pencil charging through cover - One pencil can charge through the case, the other cannot

Hi,

I purchased an Apple Pencil from the US last year and charging through the case was never a problem. However, I bought a new apple pencil today since the my old pencil's internal tip snapped off, and when I unboxed the new pencil, I tried to charge it through the same case on my iPad, however, it's not charging through it.

My old apple pencil can still charge although the internal tip snapped off, and it can still charge through the iPad case. However, when I try to charge the new one through the case, it just won't charge.

I also noticed that both of the pencils have a different clicking sound when attaching them to the iPad without a case. The new one sounds more "plastic-y", whereas the old one that I bought from the US sounds more rigid and not as cheap "sounding". The magnets on the old one definitely seem stronger than the new one.

Also, my iPad case has a place for the apple pencil, and when inserting the old one in, it feels harder to insert the old one, as if the old apple pencil is slightly thicker in diameter, however, when inserting the new apple pencil it just quickly sits in its place as it feels its thinner than the old one.

I bought the new apple pencil from an Apple Authorized store and the data of production is January 1st, 2023. However, when I unboxed it and started using it, I checked the serial number on the Apple website, and it said on the website that it couldn't verify the purchase date, so I had to manually set the purchase date and connect it to my account.

It feels that the new apple pencil is much cheaper than the old apple pencil that I had. I'm not sure if there's something wrong with the new apple pencil that I bought, or if apple really changed the material of the build quality of the apple pencil. The new one feels and sounds like plastic, the old one feels and sounds rigid. Also, where it's printed "(logo) pencil", the ink is more faded on the new one than the old one.

The second generation Apple Pencil uses inductive charging - and is intended to be in physical contact with the host iPad to reliably charge.

While some third-party cases have a very thin membrane that doesn’t interfere with charging - of those that are designed for use with an Apple Pencil, will allow physical contact.

As described, your case is unsuitable.

I understand that some cases may be unsuitable. However, I've been using this case for over 2 months and the pencil always charges. I just bought a new pencil today, and it needs to be pressed so it can be charged through the case. However, my concern is also about why the new apple pencil feels more plastic, has faded ink on it, have different clicking sound than my old apple pencil which I bought from the US.

When I refer to my old apple pencil, I still mean the Apple Pencil 2nd generation, however, bought last year

Yes, I've tried to charge it without the case and it's fine it charges. I bought the pencil from an Apple Authorized store, which has over 70 branches and the store is the most credible, so I doubt it's a counterfeit, however, seeing that the ink on the older pencil is darker than the new one and the serial number issue, I don't feel as comfortable with my purchase.

Also, the one I bought from the US doesn't have anything printed on it except the apple logo, however, all pencils I've seen here also have the "C" and a "euro" logo and "don't throw in garbage" logo printed on the pencil.

That sounds a bit fishy. I don't think Apple would allow that on the pencils unless required by law someplace and with the size issue- I haven't read anything about that anywhere.

No, I removed the wrap when I unboxed the pencil and I have no wraps on it.

However, I tried putting the pencil in the iPad case, and it charges only if I press on the pencil towards the iPad, but the older one, it just automatically charges when it's put in the case.

From what I see, the older pencil is a bit thicker so when I put it in the case it's already pressed towards the iPad. I could be wrong, but this is what I felt happening.
