I can not verify my Apple ID

I was trying to verify my Apple ID to download an app but the code they were emailing to me wasn’t working so I kept trying it over again and now it says I’ve tried to verify my account to much and it won’t allow me to download anything. How long do I have to wait for it to allow me to verify my account again?
