New Macbook pro. My login to Twitter works fine on any browser, but the Mac app shows an error

I have a new Macbook pro, running Ventura 13.4. I can login just fine to Twitter on any browser, but not on the macos app. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Twitter app to no avail. The app brings up my Twitter ID to login "@myhandle" (not my real twitter ID, but for illustration), but when I enter the password, I get this error message: "An error occurred. Please try again later. (not found)".


I know the password is good. I am wondering whether the problem is with the app forcing "@myhandle" as the login ID rather than "myhandle", which is all I enter when logging in on a browser.


I am able to login and logout to Twitter on browsers using my credentials without issue.

How to sign up or log in with the application

 

To create a new account:

  1. Launch the Twitter app from your device.
  2. Click the Sign up button to create a Twitter account.
  3. Choose and enter your username, email, and password.


To log in to an existing Twitter account:

  1. Launch the app and tap Log in.
  2. Enter your username and password.
