How can I fix a bricked iPhone 4?

My friend jailbroke her iPhone 4 and tried to delete an app she downloaded and then the phone went crazy. The screen shows the Apple logo, then goes blank and the Apple logo appears again. Sometimes it shows the battery screen with a thin red line but its been plug to the computer all day, it hasn't charge. I tried to restore it but couldn't. It started downloading iOS 4.0.2 but then iTunes didn't do nothing. Now I plug in the iPhone to the computer and it doesn't even show up on iTunes. What can I do besides call Apple?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Read the manual about DFU mode........I can't walk you through it, but it can be restored......And Apple isn't going to help you. The phone was jailbroken (why people continue to mess up their phones is beyond me) and as long as the phone is JB'd, the warranty is voided.......

Absolutely correct, but we probably won't see this thread removed as I'm sure it's not a bad thing for people to see how JB'ing can brick a phone and void one's warranty. Not a bad thing for people to see at all.......

Hold the home and sleep button down all the way until the phone powers all the way off. Then go to your computer. Hold the home button and attach the USB cord to the phone and computer to activate recovery mode.

I did the DFU thing and its restoring as with speak, thank you very much. Jailbraking isn't worth it, it brings more problems than it solves. I'll tell my friend to never do it again.

My colleague had been to apple store 2 times and they spent two hours but couldn't fix.

OK so I am having the same problem except I did not jailbreak my phone i don't believe in doing that. I went to bed one night with my phone plugged in and I woke up to a phone that when is unplugged from wall charger it shuts off but when its plugged into the wall then it powers up with no problem and works. So I tried to restore but everytime I do I keep getting errors on itunes and when the phone is plugged into my computer its in a continuous apple logo loop which cant be stopped because by the time the restore stats the restore it keep doing it again

Likely a battery problem. Take it in to Apple and let them look at it.

Basic Troubleshooting Steps when all else fails

Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, holding down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.

Relaunch the App and try again.
Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

Reset the device. (Same article as above.)

Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)

Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.

Test the issue after each step. If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.
