CarPlay issues with 2022 Rav 4 Hybrid

I too am having issues with CarPlay connectivity ever since updating to IOS 16.5. Worked fine the day before updating and now can’t use any steering wheel buttons to control and sometimes just won’t connect at all. Very frustrating. This is NOT a Toyota issue, this is clearly from the Apple update! Please fix!

I just got off the phone with apple. I’ve been following this discussion board for a couple months now. So I finally decided to contact apple and see if they had any more info. Apparently all iPhone 15 users are having the same issues. It’s listed as a top high priority. In the meantime he said to try this, disconnect CarPlay from car and erase phone from car. Then change the name of your iPhone and reconnect it all. He also mentioned to go under screen time and turn off or make sure the car play option is off. I guess at this point it’s worth a shot to try his recommendations. Trying to avoid buying the wireless adapter. However, I may end up caving and buying it. To the ones who have bought the wireless adapter, which one did you purchase?

Thank you for helping us fight the good fight! I spoke to Toyota yesterday, saying that “I was surprised” that they had been saying there was no known issue, given Apple Communities and Reddit have discussed it so extensively…… and he acknowledged that 2021 models onward didn’t have issue bc they had a completely different audio system and it’s wireless. He confirmed we can’t retrofit a different system bc the 2020 not only has a different size hole, but also doesn’t have the right wiring to accomodate it.

HOWEVER, he has a call scheduled with Australia’s technical officer today to discuss it (as this Toyota bloke has probably had me speak to him > 12 times since 2020 about it) and escalate, because I pulled out the words “consumer law” and “not fit for purpose”

On principle, I hadn’t wanted to buy anything until now. I’ve just given up - it’s too dangerous for me to keep restarting my car at the lights 3-4 times a trip.

(FYI everyone, in case you didn’t know, that’s the only fix that works for me - make sure you count to 10 before turning engine back on, or you’ll have to repeat).

I got this one, arriving tonight. I’ll let know how it goes.

I talked with Apple and Toyota and did all the resets and sent log info to Apple before the latest update.

they might not be able to fix it because the Toyota media system is pretty outdated.

the dongle I bought works every time.

I just turn on the car, and leave my phone in my pocket.

if I need a phone charge, I just plug the phone into the middle console plug or leave it on my wireless charge pad, I haven’t plugged it into the dash USB in like 2 months.

the one I got is $62 now and is sold by WQQBFF.

if you look through it he thread you might see people got different ones.

good luck

Just throwing out there what has worked for me. I have a 2020 Rav4 Hybrid and car play started out crashing every few minutes then eventually would not connect at all. I used instructions from this video on YouTube to do a full factory reset and now everything is working great. Basically, you hit the start button twice to get it in idle (do not hit the break), then hold the "apps" button down while simultaneously turning the lights on and off 3 times. This puts the head unit in factory reset mode. Hit the "Init" option then "yes". Turn the car off and back on. I am now able to connect to CarPlay again and it hasn't crashed while driving. I am on iOS 17.0.3.

I am having the exact same issue with my iPhone and my 2022 RAV4 Prime.

I've taken the car in for service twice about this issue, thinking it was the car, but they could find no problem.

I've changed cables mulitple times and even changed to a new iPhone.

It's SO dangerous, because of the map continuously having to be restarted, and so frustrating.
