I spoke to Toyota yesterday, saying that “I was surprised” that they had been saying there was no known issue, given Apple Communities and Reddit have discussed it so extensively…… and he acknowledged that 2021 models onward didn’t have issue bc they had a completely different audio system and it’s wireless. He confirmed we can’t retrofit a different system bc the 2020 not only has a different size hole, but also doesn’t have the right wiring to accomodate it.
HOWEVER, he has a call scheduled with Australia’s technical officer today to discuss it (as this Toyota bloke has probably had me speak to him > 12 times since 2020 about it) and escalate, because I pulled out the words “consumer law” and “not fit for purpose”
On principle, I hadn’t wanted to buy anything until now. I’ve just given up - it’s too dangerous for me to keep restarting my car at the lights 3-4 times a trip.
(FYI everyone, in case you didn’t know, that’s the only fix that works for me - make sure you count to 10 before turning engine back on, or you’ll have to repeat).
