Crackling sound when using eARK

Hi, I'm using a Homepod Mini stereo pair with Apple TV 4k 2022 (64 GB). I recently bought a Playstation 5 and decided to use the eARC feature. During use, I noticed that about every 3-5 minutes, a crackling sound comes from the speakers along with the sound. The problem can be observed in the UI console, where a looping melody is playing. Also, when playing, such a problem may arise, and when playing for more than 3 hours, a small crackling starts coming out of the speakers about every second. There is no such problem when playing audio from Apple TV 4k or from the TV itself - only with PS5. Also, there is no problem if I exclude the Homepod Mini and play the sound on the TV itself.

I've already tried:

Reset the Homepod Mini stereo pair

Reboot every Homepod Mini

Reboot the router, TV, PS5

Reset PS5

Set the sound mode to 16 bit

Switch eARC to ARC

Change all source types on PS5 - PCM, Dolby, DTS

Change all types of digital audio output on the TV

Recalibrate Homepod Mini

Bought new HDMI 2.1 cables

Excluded electromagnetic interference of other wires on any of the devices and their wires in a bundle

Disable CEC on PS5 and TV

The router is Keenetic Giga KN-1011, TV TCL P728. All devices have the latest updates.

I think that the problem is with the Homepod Mini software when continuously playing a looping melody that sounds close to white noise through eARC. If there is still a solution to this problem, then please help.

Appreciate the original post was from over a year ago, but I think I have a fix thanks to a really helpful guy at apple support.

I've been having the same problem with the crackling when using HomePods paired together as the main sound system on both my PS5 and Nintendo Switch.

I unpaired the two HomePods and unplugged one. Using Apple TV settings I used just one HomePod and reset it completely and ran a test on ps5.

I then switched to the other HomePod. The purpose of this was to check if it was a software or hardware issue on either HomePod.

Turns out it wasn't. they both performed perfectly as individual HomePods.

I then paired them back together and voila. the issue was resolved.

The apple support person said that if one doesn't work then they would need a voice memo of the sound it creates in order to investigate. For that you need to raise a support ticket and they send you a link to attach the file.

If the sound issue is not apparent whilst in single use but IS apparent when repaired, its a bigger issue and again would need investigating.

I managed to watch a whole film on my PS5 last night without any sound issues so fingers crossed it's fixed it.

Hope this helps anyone having the same issue

Doesn't seem to be a problem with the PlayStation 5. When I put the TV's speakers as the audio output, everything works fine. In addition, I recently noticed a new problem - when watching movies through a HPM stereo pair, the sound periodically disappears. In this case, when I rewind the film back to the place where the sound disappeared, then the sound may appear. It seems that both in the case of the PS5 and in the case of normal movie viewing, there is an overload on the HPM, which in the first case manifests itself in the form of a crackle, and in the second the sound disappears.

Also I found a video with exactly the same problem.

Even the sound is the same as on my HPM. In addition, they write in the comments that the problem is observed on the PS5, XBox and Switch consoles, so it's useless to contact PlayStation support here

It’s been doing the same with me for the past two months. It would be every half second. It was barely noticeable but then it progressively got worse with a popping noise. It’s happening on my PS5 and my Nintendo Switch. Doesn’t happen on my Apple TV (3rd Gen). I initially thought it was my tv (LG) but I got a new tv and it’s still doing the same. Kind of annoying and I tested it out by actually removing my Apple Home Pod and using a regular sound bar. Works perfectly fine on the sound bar. I re-equipped my Apple Home Pod and the popping returns after about a couple hours.
