External screen stops working when showing videos

I was trying to play a video from ABC iview from safari but every time I try to do it, the extended display completely freezes up until i either close the tab or put it back on my iPad screen. The same thing happens on SBS On Demand as well. It worked twice before suddenly it stopped working one day. I have tried to use different cables (one from an Xbox and a brand new one) but it still doesn’t work. I have also tried it on different tvs and monitors but the same thing happens.

Hey Modnet,

Is this behavior only happening with those two sites with streaming video or does it occur on others as well? Just asking because some sites may limit how their content can be shared via DRM or other means that might limit the ability to output to an external monitor above and beyond the screen on the device that's currently viewing the content. If you haven't tested other sites as of yet, give it a try and see if the same issue occurs. If it does not, then odds are the content has some form of protection that keeps it from being shared to external displays.

Report back what you find out.

Take care.

Hey Modnet,

We'll be happy to help! Just to confirm, it is the footage on the external display that freezes and not the iPad display? If the iPad freezes, we recommend making sure it is updated as it could be a software issue: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If it is only the external monitor that freezes, we recommend reaching out to the manufacturer or trying another external monitor to help isolate the issue.

Keep us updated!

Hi karina184, sorry for the late reply. It is just the external display that is freezing up. I have tried it on multiple external displays but it still has the same problem. It only happens when it is on the extended mode though. When it is mirroring the iPad it is fine.

My iPad also has the latest software version (not beta).
