It won't. An iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, or iPhone SE 1 isn't capable of 16 or above; they require an A11 or better CPU.

The iPhone 6S can only go as far as iOS 15. It lacks components to run newer software. If you want iOS 16, you will need a newer phone.
