Bruise on wrist?

It’s definitely not from the band because the bruise is right underneath the face of the watch, purplish in color. I use to not wear it at night but then started wearing it to monitor sleep and heartbeats. Then a bruise occurred and continues to appear when I wear the watch. I love the watch, I love the rose gold and miss wearing it. Specifically got it so I could receive phone calls, etc. How can I stop these bruises? Any suggestions?

I’ve started getting these as well. I just woke up with a spot this morning. The second one in about three months. The spot seems to line up with the top sensor on the non-button side. It’s a petechiae but has yellowy bruising as well. The strap is never on tight and I clean the back of the watch regularly.

I’ve had an Apple Watch for 6 years now. This is my second one, the S8. Wondering if I should ask about it. Maybe the sensor is a bit off and “burns” the underlying skin. I’d have to look up which sensor it is for…oxygen or heart rate.

It took about 2-3 weeks for the last one to fade away. I’m going to switch wrists until this one heals and test if it happens on the other side (and if so is it on the same sensor).

I also was getting purple bruises under the watch. I came here and saw similar experiences. I started paying attention to : if I was getting water or lotion underneath it and was careful. Still getting bruises. So for me I seem to have found a solution. I wear the watch higher up on my wrist than before and it’s a little tighter. I now have NO bruises.

I think it may have been too loose on the Lower part of my wrist and maybe that part of my skin is sensitive.

just my experience and I’m happy wearing it now 👍. Hope this helps someone else.

Should I be worried? Do you have some background info I should be aware of before I contact them? Thanks.

I have no background info to share and whether or not you should worry depends on what your doctor tells you. I do suggest you bring the watch and your photos to your visit. Many people have different allergies and sensitivities. In my experience it's a matter of getting treated if possible (allergy shots?). Or simply avoiding the irritant to stop the problem.

I’ve got a bruise on my wrist too from wearing my Apple Watch. I have contacted Apple twice now, via their ring back service and have been promised the matter has been escalated twice and that I will receive a call back - still waiting for those calls! The bruising is either side of the watch face, not under the face or strap. Be interested to hear of others having the same problem. Unable to wear the watch now which is really disappointing particularly as it cost so much and I love have the convenience of being able to answer calls easier when out. Hope this problem can be sorted.

Hey there,

excessive wearing of an Apple Watch can cause bruising to the skin. Make sure that you wash your skin well after exercising with an Apple watch and that you take it off for a while. Trapped sweat/skin particles can cause skin irritation which sounds similar to what you're describing. Make sure to consult a doctor if you're worried, or if the irritation occurs again.

Hope this answers your question!

I’ve actually purchased another strap (not Apple) from an online retailer and I’m not getting anymore bruising! I found the original sports strap was causing excessive sweating and may have contributed to the bruising. The new strap works so much better and is more comfortable and feels more secure. Shame Apple can’t help more this problem that so many people seems to be having. The straps are not fit for purpose and Apple replacements are just far too expensive.
