iCloud for Windows cannot approve device

Installed iCloud for Windows on Windows 11 Desktop PC with the latest windows updates as of June 5, 2023.
Passwords will not approve, I enter the 2 factor authentication number and it accepts it, then returns to the main window for iCloud settings.
I have uninstalled, reinstalled rebooted, every combination I can think of.
I have removed the PC from my iCloud devices list in the iPhone.
I restarted the PC with all non windows services disabled through msconfig.

I installed iCloud for Windows on a laptop PC with Windows 11 and the same updates as the Desktop PC. successfully.

I uninstalled the update and icloud drive for PC now appears to be working.

I uninstalled....

2023-05 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 22H2 for x64 (KB5026515)

I have similar problems with iCloud Drive for Windows 11.

right click icloud icon - click open icloud settings

after short delay... error message "An error occurred during authentication. Please try again.

Occasionally I get all the way through to two factor authentication but still cannot connect.

Preformed a complete uninstall and reinstall of icloud drive for PC from Microsoft Store. No joy.

Confirmed that my username, password and two factor is working on different PC.

Could be due to latest windows update of:

2023-05 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 22H2 for x64 (KB5026515)

The image here shows what happens if I attempt to open iCloud for Windows by running as administrator.

Unknows if this is normal.

It was a fluke... The problem has returned. The uninstall of KB5026515 appears not to be the fix. The apple authentication problem with icloud for pc is intermittent.

Another characteristic is the check box for passwords is checked, but greyed out, it can't be deselected like the other options.

Another point to consider. Icloud for windows updated on my PC a day ago to revision 14.2.96.0.

Exactly the same here... everything worked until 2 weeks ago, and then the check box turned gray, and the extension wouldn't work anymore. And I also have the same permissions error you show above
