Locked Notes

Hi Support Community,

I can't open my old locked notes with Touch ID. Recently my MacBook Pro updated or something happened to it and it just starting asking me for a password I locked my old notes with years ago. I don't know the password because I forgot it, but I always opened these notes with Touch ID.

Now it doesn't ask for Touch ID (only the password) and I don't know how to open them. I really need to open these locked notes, please let me know if there's a solution...

Without the password, and if the optionally-specified hint didn’t help, there is no access.

The password is the decryption key. Without the password, the data cannot be decrypted.

There is no back door.

Touch ID and Face ID avoid having to enter the password as often, but don’t replace it.

Look around in your keychain for passwords from the same era, as a hint.
