I can't highlight my Apple ID and phone number in imessage, it will only let me choose one

Having recently changed my phone but kept my number. I had a pop up saying my my number was registered to my Apple id but is not associated with this phone and would expire. I followed community advice to solve the problem. But under Messages > send and receive, it now says 'waiting for activation' but won't let me choose Apple id and my number , only one. If I pick my number it says this number will no longer be used for iMessage and Facetime on all your devices'. The advice and image posted showed both ticked.

Any advice please?

Hello kittywyn2,

If your iMessage service is stuck on "Waiting for activation", here's some steps you can start with: If you can’t turn on or sign in to iMessage or FaceTime

Most importantly, make sure you can currently send regular SMS text messages on the device. If SMS text messaging isn't working either, then you'll need to contact your wireless carrier and get that fixed first before you'll be able to activate the number with the iMessage service.

If you want to also use your Apple ID for iMessage, do not sign into it until you have first activated the phone number with iMessage.

If SMS messaging is working, try changing the network connection that you use while activating. For example, if you currently have the device connected to a Wi-Fi network, turn that off and use the cellular connection. Then go back to Settings > Messages, turn on the iMessage option and see if it still remains stuck on the "Waiting for activation" message.

If the iMessage service is still unable to activate, you'll want to contact Apple for assistance: Get Support

Cheers!
