"new" iphone 8 plus not providing imap option

I always keep two phones, basically clones, as backup for each other. My preferred model is the 8 plus. I just got a "new" 8 plus and upgraded it to 16.5 .

In setting up my mail accounts, it is not offering me an imap option -- only pop. I have tried manually entering imap server info into the incoming server field, but it won't connect. I have also tried editing the port to both 143 and... I forget now what the other one was... but that didn't help either. I can only get it to connect as a pop account.

My other phone -- same model, same OS -- has been successfully using imap for this same account for literally years. What's going on here?

Good afternoon Amazondoc,

It sounds like you are having an issue setting up an email account on your new iPhone 8 Plus. Which email account is giving you a problem? (Only tell us what is after the @ symbol). If you transferred information from your other iPhone to this new device, the email accounts should have transferred. Otherwise, you should be able to see the specific email account settings on your current iPhone under Settings > Mail > Accounts.

Take care.

Hi Amazondoc,

When using the Mail Support page and looking up an xxxxx@mindspring.com email address, the server info received shows POP for an macOS device and IMAP for an iOS device.

Since you're using an iOS device, and you're not getting IMAP server info, plus are unable to change, we'd advise to contact your email provider to let them know what's happening. They'd be the best to take a further look into this issue.

All the best.

Yes, I know that I SHOULD be seeing the proper options there. The issue is that the proper options ARE NOT APPEARING there. I have set up multiple email accounts on multiple iphones, so I am familiar with the process. I did not clone these two phones because I did not have wifi access at the time, and the direct phone-to-phone process kept failing, so I set up the new phone manually.

Here are screenshots. The first is my older phone, the one with the active accounts. You’ll see it is using imap and an earthlink.net incoming server. The email account is a mindspring account, but mindspring is owned by earthlink and they still use servers with both names. the second shot is my newer phone, trying to set up the same email address. You’ll see that it automatically defaults to a pop account with a pop mindspring server, and when I manually edit the server to the earthlink.net server info, I get an error message saying the server can’t connect.
