By following those steps won’t I erase data on my current second phone

A “current” second phone implies there was a “previous” second iPhone, and also a “current” first phone, implying there are or were three phones here.

Be that as it may, the erasure is specific to whichever iPhone was selected for erasure, and only those devices currently associated with your Apple ID can be selected.

Check the serial numbers before erasing, if you’re not sure.

Please read and follow the instructions in the Apple Support document that has been linked several times in this thread

If you are worried about accidentally losing the data on your iPhone 14, don't use the iPhone 14......use a computer and log on to any browser and enter www.icloud.com/find to locate the XS. You will see an option to erase the XS.

Now, if the battery on the XS has run down, or the XS does not have a connection to the Internet where it is currently situated, it is not going to appear on the Find My map.

All that you can do in that case is keep checking a few times each day to see if the status of the phone has changed.

I’m sure of the IPhone I want to erase data on. How do I go about it and my worry is I will erase all data even on my current phone

Might want to focus the state of your backups. Those backups would reduce an errant erasure to annoying, and the data survivable. With no backups, yeah, make sure you aim the erase correctly. But an erase is no different to your data than is a loss or theft or damage, too.
