Apple Motion Generator Themes are not available

I have a custom category in the Generators folder in Apple Motion that are usable in FCPx. The category has several themes. I recently went to had a custom graphic to the category but NONE of the previous themes are listed. Both softwares (FCP and Motion) are up-to-date. The proper folders are 'localized'. None of the previous file structure has changed. I'm not sure what I'm missing.

You mean that when you are saving the generator in Motion, and after you select the Category, you don't see the list of Themes? Did you choose the correct Category first? What happens if yoy select New Theme... instead, and type the name of an already existing theme?

You may want to try deleting Motion preferences, and seeing if that helps.

To delete preferences, hold down command and option while starting Motion and click Delete Preferences.

Great job troubleshooting this, and thank you for posting the solution.

I did not know this, and just assumed it was automatically gleaned from the folder structure. Very good to know!

Incidentally, the file appears as a "Unix executable", but that is only because there is no filename extension.

In actuality, it is a small plist file that looks like this (with the actual names of themes instead of theme 1, theme 2 etc):

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<array>

<string>Theme 1</string>

<string>Theme 2</string>

<string>Theme 3</string>

</array>

</plist>
