Why do my AirPods make me sound weird?

Whether it’s me making a video or me on call when I have them in I sound weird and I don’t like it can someone please help me fix it I’ve cleaned them but there is gunk in one of them like stinky stuff when I tried to clean it with that but I have an actual cleaner now and I got most of it out but I don’t know if it’s relevant someone please help with this
