Boy, I am so sorry to be asking this in 2023. But this is the first project I've edited in a while without proper slating. I have approx 15 video clips and 15 audio clips. I know how to sync in FCPX if I know the two clips match, I can select them both and synchronize. But is there a plural-eyes like method of syncing multiple clips that you are at a loss which video clip goes with which audio clip?

As Luis says, creating one or more multicams would be the route to take. Here are docs and instructions for multicams. Multicam editing workflow in Final Cut Pro for Mac - Apple Support
If the video clips also have audio, it's easy to make a multicam clip.
Select the video clips, open the Inspector's info pane, and add some value to the Camera Name or Camera Angle metadata.
Similarly for the audio clips.
The result will be a single multicam clip, with the audio and video synchronized.
You can then set markers or add keywords to selected parts of the multicam.
