Integrating Sonos controls into Lock Screen/now playing

I recently purchased a Sonos system and quickly realized that iOS does not support Lock Screen controls or volume controls for the sonos app. I understand that it needs to act independently of what is playing on the iPhone but it is frustrating that apple doesn’t offer a convenient way to quickly pause or turn down the volume of what’s playing. Can someone look into fixing the Lock Screen issue?

In case others are looking for an answer to this question, here is the relevant note from the Sonos app release notes on the removal of this feature:

15.6

Release date: 7/25/2023

In this update:

  • We’ve removed the ability to control the Sonos app for iOS using lock screen controls and device hardware buttons. The way these features were architected do not meet Apple’s experience guidelines for developers and no longer offer a reliable control experience.

Hopefully, Sonos will update the app to comply with the experience guidelines and return this very useful functionality. However, seeing how Sonos just released a major redesign of the app without this feature, that doesn’t seem likely.
