MacOS Ventura 13.4 Messages - unable to create or manage group conversations.

Since upgrading to Ventura 13.4, I am unable to create a group conversation - it goes out as individual conversations, even though it displays as a group conversation in the conversation list. Then when I try to manage the group conversation (following the directions in the Apple Messages User Guide online by clicking on the information icon on that message) none of the options to manage the group (rename group, change photo/image, add person, etc.) are listed at all. Not simply grayed out - not visible at all. I have been unable to find anything that would point to a parameter setting or some other incompatibility (i.e. non-Apple users included in the group). Lastly, my ability to generate and participate in group conversations worked fine prior to upgrading to 13.4 (I am unsure when the last time the manage group conversation functions were available). Any ideas?

Barney, thanks! I had thought that was probably an answer. If I can do a quick follow up - Since upgrading to Ventura 13.4, when I initiate a group text (including SMS recipients), it shows as a group Message/text going out, but each of the recipients sees the Message/text as an individual conversation and their replies to me now show up as individual conversations (either new conversations or attached to previous conversations depending on if it's new or not - hope that makes sense). The group as a whole doesn't see each other and everyone's responses. Have you heard of this? Internet and forum searches haven't given me any leads yet. I have rebooted, but had to do so again last night so will try again today to see if the situation has 'automagically' been corrected. Thanks again for answering the original question for me.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.
